3 Tips To Help You Live In Your Home While It Is Being Renovated

Home renovations can be exciting, but they can also bring you a lot of stress. This is especially true if you are like most people and have to live in your home while it is being renovated. While it is easier to go through home renovations if you have another place to stay, living in your home while it is being renovated doesn't have to be a nightmare. Here are three tips to help you make it while living in your home that is being renovated.

1. Make a clear plan well in advance of starting renovations.

You may think it goes without saying that you need to have a plan before you start renovations, but so many people fail to do this. If they hire a contractor to handle the renovations, they just leave it all up to them. However, if you plan to live in your home while the renovations take place, you need to be the one who comes up with the plan.

Not only do you need a plan, but it needs to be very clear on several key issues, such as what time it is acceptable to start work and what rooms will be worked on and when. Without having a clear plan set in place before the renovations begin, it can cause a lot of headaches for you and your family living in the house.

2. Never have all of the bathrooms renovated at the same time.

If you want to live harmoniously with your family while your home is being renovated, never have all of the bathrooms being worked on at the same time. If your home only has one bathroom, then you need to make sure the work is completed in that room the same day, because you and your family need to have access to a working toilet. You may think having a portable toilet in your driveway is a suitable replacement for a while, but having to go outside to use the bathroom will get old quickly.

3. Try to have the kitchen completed as quickly as possible.

While it is not as important to have the kitchen up and running as it is a bathroom, you should still try to have it completed as quickly as possible. You can always make other plans for food for a day or two. You can set up a microwave in another room or even eat out for a short period of time, but you don't want a kitchen renovation to go on for longer than a week. After all, eating out can quickly add up to a lot of additional money being spent - not to mention it just makes life easier when you can cook a good meal at home.

About Me

Remodeling Your Home Can Improve Your Life

When I was growing up, my parents were avid believers in feng shui, although I was too young to really understand it. They did teach me that by arranging your home properly, it improved the "energy flow" in the home. I had a great childhood, but when I moved out on my own, I started having back luck. My parents encouraged me to have some home remodeling done to improve the energy flow in my home, and soon after, my luck seemed to turn around. I am still not sure if I believe in feng shui, but I know I just feel great in my newly remodeled home and I think the fresh new really got me out of "the rut" I felt I was stuck in. I want to pay it back to others by sharing what I have learned about remodeling on my new blog!
